Car not idling well and puffs of air from intake valves

Ok so i have got a hybrid ej build so 2.5 block and 2.0 heads with bigger aftermarket cams (dont know the specs right now since i didnt build the motor) anyways the car will try to start and run but it idles very very poorly. Plus i was getting oil into one of the cylinders so i pulled the motor but i believe the valve stem seals are worn. I put air pressure into the cylinders and dont hear any leaks into the crankcase or out from the intake valves while the motor is sitting static. However when cranking with the starter i was getting air puffs from the intake valves. So im wondering if with aftermarket cams would i need adjustable cam gears or what. Or does anyone have any other suggestions?

Not an expert in this, but it sounds like bad sealing of the intake valves, possibly bent if youre getting decent puffs through the intake. May be worth doing compression/leak down test to verify all is well.
